Singapore in Division 5

KATHMANDU, Sept 2: Singapore climbed up into Pepsi World Cricket League Division 5 after they reached the final of the ongoing Division 5 tournament on Wednesday. Top two teams of the Division 6 tournament being held in Singapore will qualify for the Division 5 to be held in Kathmandu from February 20-27 next year. Hosts Nepal along with the United States, Fiji and Jersey have already secured their position in Division 5 tournament. [break]



Host Singapore defeated Norway by 8 wickets to book their berth in the Division 5 tournament. Singapore had earlier defeated Guernsey, Botswana and Bahrain in the tournament. Singapore will play their final league match against Malaysia on Friday. Malaysia have only points from 3 matches so far after they lost against Bahrain in the opening match. Bahrain too have 4 points from as many matches.



Singapore and Nepal contested in last year´s Division 5 tournament held in Jersey. Nepal came third in the tournament and remained in Division 5, while Singapore were delegated to Division 6 after finishing fifth.



Nepali umpire Binaya Kumar Jha partnered with world number one cricket umpire Simon Taufel of Australia in the match between Malaysia and Guernsey on Wednesday in the ongoing Division 6 tournament in Singapore.



Earlier, Sanjay Gurung became the first Nepali umpire to share the field with Taufel in the match between Botswana and Norway. Nepal´s only One Day International umpire Buddhi Bahadur Pradhan will serve as on field umpire with Taufel on Friday in the tournament.
