Shrestha leads in 10 m air rifle

KATHMANDU, Oct 8: Tikaram Shrestha of Sunsari took the overall lead in the men´s 10 m air rifle event during the second day of the Nationwide Open Shooting Championship, scoring 569 points out of 600 on Monday.



Krishna Ghorasaini of Nepal Army, who had scored 557 points at the Satdobato Shooting Range on the opening day, is in the second position while Hari Bahadur Thapa of Nepal Police is trailing in the third position with 555 points.[break]



In Monday´s men´s 10 m air pistol event, Bipesh Khadka of Kathmandu scored 522 points followed by Mohammad Assad (518 points) of Banke and Hem Bahadur Budhathoki (509 points) of Nepal Army.



Sudan Khadka of Nepal Army, who had topscored 551 points out of 600 points a day ago, leads the overall standings in the event. Kuber KC of Nepal Army is second with 549 points while KB Pun of Baglung is third with 524 points.



In the women´s 10 m air rifle event, Phoolmaya Kyapchaki of Nepal Police scored 380 points out of a total of 400 points on Monday.



Her club-mate Manika Rai scored 356 points while Khushbu Chaudhary of Saptari garnered 353 points on the second day. Sneha Rajya Laxmi Rana of Rupandehi, who had scored 386 points on Sunday, leads the overall standings with 386 points. Durga Sinjali of Nepal Police is third with 376 points.



Likewise, Saraswati Baniya of Nepal Police leads the women´s 10 m air pistol event after scoring 363 points out of 400. Seema Tuladhar of Nepal Police beat Sunita Maharjan of Nepal Army in the race for the second position despite having equal 341 points. Tuladhar edged out Maharjan on the basis of series shot to claim the second position.



Bishnu Kumari Pun of Dang garnered 334 points on Monday while Rubina Shrestha of Lalitpur collected 333 points.



The top six players in all four events will be decided on Tuesday. Those players will then vie for the title in Wednesday´s final.



Altogether 44 male and 32 female shooters are competing in the event organized by Nepal Shooting Association. The top three shooters in each category will bag a purse of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
