KATHMANDU, June 9: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a show cause notice to the government over the latter´s decision to extend the service of the eight brigadier generals of Nepal Army who were retired by the former Maoist-led government in March.
Replying to a public interest litigation filed by human rights activist Raju Thapa, justice Rana Bahadur Bam issued the order.
The court also ordered the government to send its representative on June 16 to take part in a discussion on whether the government´s decision should be stayed as demanded by the petitioner.
The government last week decided to extend the generals´ term by three years.
