KATHMANDU, Sept 29: UCPN (Maoist) Secretary CP Gajurel said on Thursday the four-point deal reached with Madhes-based parties was against party line and demanded that the party establishment scrap it.

Speaking at a program in the capital, Gajurel, who is close to party Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya, warned of a mass protest if the establishment fails to scrap the deal that paved way for the current coalition government. [break]

He also announced that an agitation against the deal, which he described as being against national interests, has already begun. “Nothing else is more important than the nation. The agitation won’t stop unless the deal is scrapped,” he said.

The Maoist leader went on to say that the ‘secessionist’ remark recently made by Defense Minister Sharat Singh Bhandari was part of the essence of the four-point pact.

“What´s the use having a government which can´t safeguard the country´s sovereignty and integrity,” he questioned.

Three days ago, speaking at the same venue, Minister Bhandari had said nothing could stop the 22 Terai districts from seceding if the districts want to. He has come under fire from all quarters for his controversial statement ever since.
