Advocate Anjani Kumar Pokhrel on Monday had moved the apex court stating that an article by columnist Pandey on Saturday is responsible for holding the court in contempt.

The petitioner has claimed that the article has demeaned the SC and is intended to influence the people´s faith in the apex court.

Pokhrel has claimed that the article has defamed the justices and has termed the article “false” and “misleading”.

The petitioner has urged the SC to slap one-year-jail term and a fine of Rs 10,000 on the defendants stating that the article has tarnished the image of the judiciary.

The writ petitioner has maintained that the defendants should be punished so as to discourage the trend of interfering with the activities of the judiciary.

Chairman of Kantipur Publications Private Limited Kailash Sirohiya, Director Swastika Sirohiya, Editor-in-chief Sudheer Sharma and columnist Pandey have been made defendants in the writ petition.
