Yamaha announces ´Road Trip to Everest´ winners

KATHMANDU, June 26: Morang Auto Works, the authorized distributor of Yamaha motorcycles for Nepal, has announced the names of three Nepali individuals who were selected to travel to the Everest base camp under the Yamaha FZ Road Trip to Everest campaign.

The three--Amit Pradhan of Palpa, Jyoti Desar of Chapagaun, Lalitpur and Kumar Bal ´Resham´ of Thamel--were selected through a lucky draw held in Kathmandu on Friday. These three individuals will be accompanied by Nima Rumba, singer, Suraj Singh Thakuri, video jockey, and Deepak Bista, Nepal´s ace taekwondo player, and three others from Morang Auto Works.

The participants will begin their journey from Kathmandu to the base camp on the Chinese side of the Mount Everest on July 18 this year. During the 8-day trip, the participants will cover 1,200 kilometers on Yamaha FZ bikes and go up to an altitude of 5,200 meters.

"This is the first time in the Nepali history that bikes of 150cc category are being used to travel to that altitude," Morang Auto Works has said. "Successful completion of the journey will establish Yamaha FZ as a bike that can travel in any climatic and road conditions."

Morang Auto Works had formally launched the ´Road Trip to Everest´ campaign in May this year. After its launch, a total of 457 individuals had applied for the road trip, of which only 137 were valid entries. Possession of FZ bike, Nepali citizenship card, valid driving license and passport were four conditions applicants had to meet to be eligible for the competition.

In case the selected individuals fail to pass the health tests, Morang Auto will replace them with three other individuals who were also selected through a lucky draw on Friday. The other three on the reserve list are: Bala Ram Sibanjar of Bhaktapur, Karma Maharjan of Sundhara, Patan, and Deepak Prasad Lamichhane of Nagarkot, Bhaktapur.
