Chief Secretary, Lila Mani Paudyal, inaugurated the bus service amid a function at Pulchowk based office of the oldest public transport organization, Sajha Yatayat.
Chief Secretary Paudyal purchased a ticket of Rs. 15 with the popular comedians, Madan Krishna Shrestha and Haribamsha Acharya (Mahajodi) and boarded the bus, on Saturday itself.
The Sajha bus has come into operation after a 12-year long gap in the country would start its business from the Nepali New Year 2070 B.S. though the services were inaugurated today.
The Sajha offers free services to the guests, journalists and the general public attended the inaugural function. It also offered free services to all passengers on Saturday.
Speaking at the programme, Chief Secretary Paudyal said that there had been lack of good behavior, adding that the Sajha would care for the rights, facilities and good conduct, and guarantee of security to its passengers. He stressed the need of operating the Sajha bus services making them reliable and in a transparent.
Similarly, Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management, Tulasi Sitaula, said the new management of the Sajha should think for the standard and effective services.
During the programme, Chairman of the Sajha Yatatyat, Kanak Mani Dixit, promised that the cooperative would devote its services for the people and make it as a model of the public means of transportation. Sajha would bring wheel chair friendly buses so as to make its services disable friendly within the next three months.
Popular comedians Shrestha, Acharya, Chairman of the National Cooperatives Board, Keshav Badal, and environmentalist Bhushan Tuladhar, among others stressed the need of freeing it from any political interference.
