Ruling party, opposition rally in Charikot

DOLAKHA, Jan 25: Charikot, the district headquarters of Dolakha, remained tense throughout the day on Friday as the ruling UCPN (Maoist) and various other opposition parties simultaneously organized rallies to display their strengths.



Prior to the inauguration ceremony of its Dolakha district convention, the UCPN (Maoist) held out a rally, in which hundreds of Maoist cadres participated. At the same time, opposition parties including Nepali Congress, CPN-UML took out own rallies against the government. [break]



However, clashes between the UCPN (Maoist) and opposition parties´ cadres did not happen due to the heavy presence of security personnel. Police from neighboring districts had also been deployed in Charikot to prevent any untoward incident.
