KATHMANDU, July 29: The National News Agency or RSS has filed a complaint against 10 vernacular weeklies and dailies published from Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Morang, Rautahat and Sindhuli districts for using its products without subscribing to it.

Citing violation of the Journalist Code of Conduct and Copyrights Act, 2063, the only news agency of the country today filed separate complaints at the Department of Information, Press Council Nepal and the Federation of Nepalese Journalists central office in Tilganga, Kathmandu. [break]

The complaint was filed along with necessary evidence after repeated request to the sides concerned to either stop the unethical use of RSS news and photo or to subscribe to them failed, says the RSS Marketing Department.

The newspapers have been found to have copied and pasted the news published in RSS news bulletin on different dates in the past few months.

The complaint has been filed against Rajdevi daily published from Rautahat (Editor-in-Chief: Ram Pukar Raut), Darshan daily published from Biratnagar (Editor cum publisher: Shiva Bahadur Karki), The Universal Times weekly published from Kathmandu (Executive Editor: Bishnu Giri) and Krantidwar daily published from Rautahat (Managing Director: Kishori Yadav).

Similarly, complaints have also been filed against Biratpath daily published from Biratnagar (Editor cum Publisher: Shekhar Regmi), Abhiyan Times published from Kathmandu (Editor-in-Chief Chanya Chandra Bhandari), Janabidroha national daily published from Biratnagar (Editor-in-chief: Bibek Gautam) and Janaboli Sandesh published from Sindhuli (Chairperson: Shyam Hari Adhikari).

Complaints have also been filed against Janamanch daily published from Lalitpur (Editor: Prahlad Rijal), Tender times weekly published from Kathmandu (Editor: Raushan Kumar Singh) after they were found to be publishing RSS news without subscribing to the new agency.

Accepting the complaint, Director of Department of Information Krishna Prasad Pokharel gave assurances of taking legal action against the newspapers that involved in news theft.

RSS has initiated a campaign to stop unofficial use of its products including news, photo and audio bites, after the number of newspapers found using RSS serve after acquiring the username and password from RSS subscribers were found to have been increasing every day.

Prior to this, RSS had filed similar complaints against 10 newspapers published from Birgunj and five from Kailali.

As of late, many online news portals and FM radio stations too have been found to be filing RSS news without officially subscribing to it. The RSS is working out ways to stop that too.
