KATHMANDU, June 8: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) parliamentary party leader Gyanendra Shahi has questioned alleged alterations in the Appropriation Bill for fiscal year 2026/27, asking whose interests were being served by changes made without parliamentary submission.

Speaking in Monday’s parliamentary session, Shahi also demanded a parliamentary investigation into Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle over alleged tampering with the budget presented by the government.

“The Appropriation Bill is being changed repeatedly by the finance minister—whose interests is this serving?” Shahi said.

He added that the country has not been undermined by farmers or ordinary citizens, but by those in power. He also called for treason charges against those responsible for leaking tax rate information.

Shahi further demanded that Parliament, rather than the government, form an investigation committee into the matter.

“Who knows about changes in tax rates? Even secretaries do not know. Only the finance minister and those appointed by him know,” he said. “Information is leaked, 753 BYD vehicles are cleared from customs via Kerala on 28 May, and they arrive on 3 June. Then the government forms an investigation committee. How can the government investigate itself and blame employees?”
