The Department of Customs had a target of raising Rs 8.94 billion from the Birgunj-based Customs Office but has been able to collect only Rs 7.19 billion as the Office remained without work following the April 25 earthquake and aftershocks. It is 20 per cent less as compared to a month period from mid- April to mid-May, said Information Officer Sushil Sharma.
The Office has also failed to meet the target for mid April to mid May collecting Rs 2.61 billion less as compared to the previous month. The Office raised Rs 300 million to Rs 320 million per day in average, said Chief Customs Officer Mitralal Regmi.
