CHITWAN, April 18: It is said one does not need any reason to call for a strike in Nepal. An incident that occurred at Ratnanagar in Chitwan on Thursday testifies this.

On Thursday, relatives of a girl not only picketed the police office but also staged a two-hour vehicular strike at Bakullahar Chowk after a boy, who was betrothed to the girl, said he did not want to marry her. [break]

A boy from Ratnanagar Municipality-3 had been engaged with the girl from ward no-3 of the same municipality on March 13. Both the families had set April 24 as the wedding date. However, the boy later called up the girl saying he did not want to marry her.

According to the girl´s uncle, they have filed a complaint against the boy for rejecting the girl´s hand in marriage. The girl´s relatives took to streets after the police did not take action against the boy.

Police had to use force to bring the situation under control after the girl´s relatives resisted police intervention. One policeman and a woman were injured in the scuffle.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Arun Poudel informed that the police have been trying to reconcile both the parties.

“The police can not take action against any party in such cases. We are trying to reconcile both the parties,” said Poudel.
