Ranabir Sena's 'gun lab' seized

BIRATNAGAR, Sept 7: Police on Monday seized the head office of the Ranabir Sena´s GFP (Gun for Peace) in Biratnagar where the Sena was running a mini-lab that was producing lethal explosives like RDX.



Police authorities claimed that the Sena was planning a series of attacks in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Biratnagar and Birgunj. "It had some high-profile personalities on its hit list," a police official said.







The police seized the lab and unearthed the Sena´s strategies after they arrested its ´Deputy Supreme Commander´ Binod Kumar Pandey on Sunday.



Pandey (41), who hails from Rajbiraj-1, was working both for Surya Nepal and Dolakha Construction Service. Pandey had studied civil engineering in Madras. The police also arrested his accomplice Nabin Pandey (24).



Devendra Subedi, head of Morang police, said the police recovered RDX from the lab. At a press conference, Subedi said it was the first case that such a lab operated by any armed group was seized.



The police seized 10 kg of ammunitions including 1.5 kg of gunpowder, two kg of sulfur, one kg of soda, one packet of boric acid, 500 grams of sodium sulphate, 500 gm each of potassium permanganate, potassium nitrate and potassium magnate, one packet of aluminum metal powder, 500 grams of ammonium nitrate, and iron rods and pipes from the lab.
