Protest forces Dahal to cut short Siraha visit (with photos)

SIRAHA, July 20: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal was scheduled to arrive here in Siraha-5 to collect feedback on the preliminary draft of the new constitution on Monday.

He was scheduled to attend the function at the Mirchaiya-based Mohan High School.


The Maoist Chairman was to arrive at the venue through a chopper. Cadres of Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal burned tires at the helipad before his arrival, forcing him to use land route.  

Dahal arrived in a chopper in Lahan and then reached the venue on a vehicle where he was greeted by black flags. Security personnel stepped in to maintain order after demonstrators hurled stones at the stage.

Superitendent of Police Ram Tripal Shah informed that seven police personnel including DSP Madhav Budhatholki got injured in the police-protesters clash.

Police surrounded the former prime minister while demonstrators hurled stone at the stage.

With no break in protest, Dahal returned to Kathmandu cutting short his daylong visit.
