Keeping the victim's dead body at Bharat Chowk of the district headquarters, Kalaiya, locals and the victim's family have been staging sit-in protest against the incident for the last four days. As the protest continues, final rites of the victim have not been performed so far.
The protest has been intensified after the locals launched "Beti Bachau" (save the daughters) campaign in the district. The protest struggle committee has forwarded the government different demands including punishment for the accused Kanhaiya Gupta, resignation of home minister, and compensation of one million rupees for the victim's family.
Last Thursday, the district headquarters of Bara had remained tense following a clash between agitating women and police in the district.
