Prime and Whitehouse started the First Morgan Cup National Club-level Basketball Tournament with victories in the women´s section on Friday. [break]
Prime defeated Morgan 36-17 on the latter´s home court at Basundhara, Kathmandu as Sneha Singh scored 13 points for the winning side. Prime took the first quarter 8-7 and extended the lead with a second quarter score of 7-6. Prime dominated the last two quarters with scores of 10-2 and 11-2 to register a comfortable victory.
Likewise, Whitehouse eased past Saipal 32-19. Sujata Rai, who scored nine points, was the highest scorer for Whitehouse. Whitehouse took the first two quarters 8-5, 12-2 but Saipal cut the lead in the third quarter as it scored 10 points against eight scored by Whitehouse. Whitehouse took the low-scoring last quarter 4-2 to seal an easy victory.
Meanwhile, Gurukul won its first match of the tournament in the men´s section on Friday. Gurukul defeated Xavier´s 84-51 in the match played at the National Sports Council covered hall. Kijato scored 23 points for Gurukul. Xavier´s took a 24-19 lead in the first quarter but Gurukul dominated the remaining three quarters with the scores of 16-11, 24-10 and 25-6 for an emphatic victory.
