Prime, Oxbridge in final

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Prime and Oxbridge have reached the final of girls´ team event in the college section of the Fourth Krishnadhwaj Memorial School and College Level Table Tennis Championship.



Prime edged past Liverpool 3-0 while Oxbridge beat Golden Gate 3-1 in the semifinal matches played at the National Table Tennis Training Center, Lainchaur on Tuesday.



Likewise, Modern Indian School and Prabhat English Higher Secondary School won their respective matches to enter the semifinals of girls´ team event in the school section, while Bijeshwari Higher Secondary School and Adarsha Vidya Mandir (AVM) received byes to earn direct entry into the last four. Around 300 players are participating in the four-day tournament organized by Dark Horse Pvt Ltd.[break]



Road race to celebrate Education Day

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): National Sports Council (NSC) on Tuesday announced that it would organize a road race for school students of Kathmandu Valley on September 7 to celebrate the National Education Day and International Literacy Day. The event is being organized on the initiative of the Ministry of Education. According to NSC Public Relation Officer Min Kumar Sharma, they will organize a 5-km road race for boys and a 3-km race for girls. The winners of both the races will receive Rs 15,000 each while the runners-up will get Rs 10,000 each.



Junior taekwondo team flies to Malaysia today


KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): A 12-member team, including five junior taekwondo players, is all set to fly to Malaysia on Wednesday to participate in the Seventh CK-Malaysia Classic International Taekwondo Championship to be held there from August 23 to 25. Yunisha Neupane and Himanshu Kumar Jha will compete in individual and dual pumse events. Diya Bhattarai and Avishkar Sunuwar will compete in pumse event as well as in sparring of 21kg weight category. Resh Bikram Bhattarai will compete in boys´ 23kg weight category. Diya and Avishkar are U-7 players while the other three are U-9 players. All the five players are students of Heavenly Garden Kids Campus, Bhairahawa. The players will be accompanied by their school principal, two coaches and guardians. Nepal Taekwondo Association bade farewell to the team on Tuesday.
