The president held separate meetings with Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala, Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF) Chairman Upendra Yadav and Tarai Madhes Democratic Party-Nepal Chairman Mahendra Yadav and urged them to expedite both the constitution drafting and peace process. [break]
He also held joint meetings with Socialist Democratic People´s Party-Nepal (SDPP-N) Chairman Prem Bahadur Singh, Chure Bhawar Ekata Samaj President Keshav Mainali and Dalit Janajati Party Chairman Bishwendra Paswan.
Talking to Republica after the meeting, (SDPP-N) Chairman Singh said President Dr Yadav is extremely worried about lack of progress made in the constitution drafting and peace process. “The new constitution must be promulgated within the stipulated deadline. It would be disastrous for the country if this does not happen,” Singh quoted President Dr Yadav as saying.
According to Singh, the president asked them to take initiatives help promulgate new constitution within the set deadline. “Though there has been some progress in constitution drafting, the peace process has not seen much progress,” he quoted the president as saying.
The president also stressed on the need for unity among the political parties.
President Yadav had held meetings with UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, among other leaders, on Friday. He had urged Dahal to assume greater responsibility toward the peace process.
