KATHMANDU, March 8: Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) led by Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan and recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), concluded its sixth general assembly on Friday despite repeated calls from National Sports Council (NSC) to national associations to shun the event.

NOC has claimed that out of 25 member associations, representatives of only 21 member associations had attended the general assembly. [break]

Representatives of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), Nepal Amateur Athletics Association (NAAA), Nepal Taekwondo Association and Nepal Triathlon Association did not attend the general assembly.

NSC has been asking all the national associations, athletes and officials to break ties with the Pradhan-led NOC citing the Supreme Court order.

Two different NOCs -- one led by Pradhan and the other led by Rukma SJB Rana -- have been claiming legitimacy. While the Supreme Court´s verdict of November 4, 2010 legitimized the Rana-led committee, IOC has recognized the committee led by Pradhan.

According to NOC Assistant General Secretary Lama Tendi Sherpa, the sixth general assembly decided to expel its member Rabi Rajkarnikar. NOC has accused Rajkarnikar, the general secretary of NOC-recognized NAAA, of plotting against the Olympic movements in recent past. Rajkarnikar has been supporting NSC´s move of shunning the Pradhan-led NOC.

The general assembly has also decided to give continuity to the dialogue committee, which NOC had formed some four months ago to settle the controversy over legitimacy. NOC Vice-president Ganga Bahadur Thapa heads the dialogue committee.

Meanwhile, the general assembly decided to award full membership of NOC to Nepal Fencing Association.

NOC felicitated its founder member Sushil Shamsher Rana during the inaugural ceremony of the general assembly. Likewise, NOC felicitated its treasurer Chhimi Urkyen Gurung, Guangzhou Asian Games medalist Deepak Maharjan, senior sports journalist Shyam Chitrakar, first female sports staff Bimala Malla Maharjan and Rita Shah Mukherjee, the first Nepali female athlete to participate at international level.
