Poll date in 2 weeks: Ghimire

BIRATNAGAR, May 13: Home Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire said on Monday the date of new Constituent Assembly (CA) elections will be announced within two weeks.



Ghimire was of the view that since preparations are ongoing for issuance of electoral laws through ordinance, the election date will be announced in next 10 to 12 days. [break]



“The election date will be fixed for November second or third week,” he said talking to reporters at Biratnagar airport. He also said talks are underway with political leaders on disputed issues including proportional representation (PR) threshold and the CA size to incorporate them in the electoral laws.



“We are all-focused on the elections. There will be no turning back now,” said Ghimire who was on his way to Sunsari to attend a religious function. He further said the government is also at the same time holding dialogue with the protesting parties. “There is already a reply received from the Baidya-led Maoist party.“ He added: "They have put forth some demands. The government will address the demands that are legitimate.”
