Spokesman for Nepal Police DIG Bigyan Raj Sharma told media persons at a monthly briefing on Wednesday that Nepal Police would make public a comprehensive report on Dr Shrestha´s abduction.
“The kidnappers are very well organized, professional criminals,” Sharma said.
Sharma hinted that the police report was likely to counter Dr Shrestha´s account about the identity of his kidnappers. He said it is like a fashion for criminals to produce some name as cover.
He reiterated that Nepal Police prioritized the safety of the abductee during the pre-release investigation and would now focus on nabbing the criminals involved.
A police investigation led by AIG Prakash Kunwar had submitted its report to Home Minister Bhim Rawal on Tuesday.
After receiving the report, Rawal said at a function that the government had gotten closer to the kidnappers and would soon make public its reports on the case. “Like the high-profile murder cases of Jamim Shah and Arun Singhaniya, Dr Shrestha´s abduction too seems to have been carried out for financial reasons,” he said.
Rawal stressed that the government would not let the kidnappers get away with it no matter how powerful they are.
Maoists blamed
Meanwhile, Youth Association Nepal on Wednesday claimed Maoist hand in the abduction and subsequent release of Dr Shrestha, RSS reported.
Releasing a report of a team formed by the association to probe into Dr Shrestha´s abduction in Bharatpur, the association said Maoists had abducted Shrestha.
Central president of the UML youth wing Mahesh Basnet said the probe team has found Maoist hand in the abduction and the association will make public the details about the places where Dr Shrestha was kept during the captivity soon.
