The incident comes to the fore at a time when the police headquarters has directed its subordinate offices to adopt zero tolerance against cases related to violence against women.[break]
A police investigation revealed that Rohini Pokharel, a sub inspector at a temporary police station in Bastipur, settled a rape case taking Rs 25,000 as bribe from one Chandreshwor Yadav implicated in the rape of a 14-year old local girl.
After the incident came to light, police arrested Pokharel and have started departmental action against him. Pokharel has been detained at the zonal police office, Rajbiraj.
Dhakendra Khatiwada, inspector at the ward police office, Lahan, said Pokharel has already confessed to taking bribe from the perpetrator to settle the rape case.
