According to Inspector Pradip Chhetri of the District Police Office, Surkhet, the men, numbering about 15, who had come in a jeep from neighboring Kalikot district stormed the police post at Baddichour, 25 kilometers west of Birendranagar, the district headquarters, at about 10:30 pm. The attackers were armed with sharp weapons.
There were seven policemen, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Min Bahadur Shahi, stationed at the post.
Inspector Chhetri said two of the injured have returned home after treatment at a hospital in Surkhet. Preparations are underway to airlift two others seriously injured in the attack, Prakash Giri and Shumsher Khadka, to Kathmandu for treatment.
The police came under sudden attack following an argument at a check post set up near the police post, and they didn’t have time to retaliate. The police believe the attackers might be hooligans. No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
