KATHMANDU, Feb 11: Police have rounded up a gang involved in the cyber crime of crypto betting.
A team of police officials mobilized from the District Police Range (DPR), Kathmandu, arrested a gang involved in cryptocurrency trading by renting two houses in Gairigaun, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-3, Budhanilkantha.
“According to our initial investigations, the gang has been found to be involved in betting of over Rs 3.13 billion,” Senior Superintendent of Police Bishwa Adhikari told Republica.
According to the DPR, at least 23 Indian nationals involved in the case have been arrested.The arrested individuals have been identified as Wokil Kumar Yadav; Kishori Prasad Yadav; Rohit Kumar Yadav; Munna Kumar Yadav; Badal Kumar Jaiswal; Rawal Kumar Yadav; Bipin Kumar Yadav; Shankar Kumar Yadav; Rohit Kumar; Bhabesh Kumar; Abhishek Kumar; Kubinder Singh; Harsh Jaiswal; Suraj Shah; Shreshtha Gupta; Bithu Kumar; Sunil Kumar Jaiswal; Mohammad Sahid Malik; Saurabh Kharuwa; Chandan Yadav; Shyam Kumar; S. Balakrishna and Surendra Kumar.
Police recovered 88 mobile phones, 10 laptops, 50 Indian SIM cards, 9 Indian ATM cards and other equipment from the accused.
Meanwhile, police have stated that since January 28, a total of 3,379 absconding defendants have been arrested and legal action has been initiated against them.
One arrested for theft
Police have also arrested an individual for his involvement in the theft of gold and various jewelry in Dallu, Kathmandu.
The arrested person has been identified as Narendra Deula, 41. According to Superintendent of Police Apil Raj Bohara, spokesperson for the DPR, Deula has been involved in five theft cases and one murder case before.
In some cases, he had served an imprisonment sentence, while in others, he was released on bail. Police have recovered gold jewelry worth about Rs 1.123 from his possession.
Two arrested on murder charges
Sangharsha Karki, 23, was murdered with a sharp weapon during a clash between two groups over the purchase of a stolen mobile phone in Kumarigal, Kathmandu.
Police have arrested three people involved in the incident. The arrested include Unikee Lama (Nyutu Sherpa), 23; Bishal Tamang, and Kshitiz Karki, both 19. According to police, Sherpa has been arrested five times in the past for indecent assault. One of the people involved in the incident is still at large.
