Police defends beach volleyball title

NEPALGUNJ, Sept 17: Nepal Police Club defended the title of Second National Beach Volleyball Tournament on Saturday during an all police final match being held at the artificial court of Gaughat, Sitapur.



Among the two departmental teams participating in the event, Police B lifted the title for the second time in a row. The last time police had won the title was in 2065 BS held in the capital. [break]



Coincidentally, the opponent team in the final was Police A. In the competitive final, Police B had a hard fought three sets victory over A team. Police B won the first set 21-18 but they lost another set 17-21. In the decisive third set they had 18-16 victory.



Earlier, during the semifinal matches both the teams of Police defeated their arch rivals teams of Armed Police Force -- APF A and B.



Police A saw off APF B and Police B flopped APF A. In the third place honors between APF teams, APF A beat B.



The winner and the runner up teams were awarded with trophy medals and certificates by Constituent Assembly Vice chairman Purna Kumari Subedi.



The tournament was held at Yogini High School´s ground.



Altogether, 14 teams had participated in the three-day event including five regional teams, two departmental teams and PLA Sports Club.



The tournament was organized by Nepal Volleyball Association for the first time outside the capital. Nepal Army Club pulled out of the tournament at the last moment following PLA´s participation.
