PM Nepal briefed on media security

KATHMANDU, Nov 20: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal reiterated the government´s commitment to press freedom on Friday.



In a meeting with the newly elected executive committee of Asia Journalist Association-Nepal (AJA-Nepal), PM Nepal admitted that self-censorship was on the rise due to impunity and that the state had not been successful in safeguarding media freedom.



Representatives from AJA- Nepal briefed PM Nepal on press freedom scenario and urged him to ensure media security.



Similarly, they also met President Dr Ram Baran Yadav at his office and briefed him about threats facing the media sector.
