PM gives away National Talent awards, honors cricketers

KATHMANDU, Sept. 28: Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has honored various youth scientists and the best athletes with the ´National Youth Talent Award´ and ´National Sports Talent Award´ amidst a ceremony here today.



Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai who is also looking after the portfolio of the Ministry of Youth and Sports honoured them with cash prize and letter of appreciation.[break]



Scientists receiving the ´National Youth Talent Award´ are Ram Prasad Rimal, Laxman Prasad Rimal, Kushal KC and Chhurim Sherpa. Rimals were honoured for making a siren machine for the security purpose of a locality, KC was honored for inventing a solar car with one-person capacity and Sherpa for his contribution to the mountaineering sector.



They received Rs. 100,000 each and letter of appreciation.



Likewise, winners of ICC World Cricket League Division Four have been honored with cash prize of Rs. 300,000 each and letter of appreciation.



Similarly, boxer Deepak Maharjan, Karate player Ganga Devi Adhikari and Nepal Taekwondo Association have been honored with National Sports Talent Award carrying a purse of Rs. 100,000 and copper plaque.



Those awarded cricketers are captain Paras Khadka, Vice Captain Gyanendra Malla, Amrit Bhattarai, Shakti Prasad Gauchan, Basanta Regmi, Anil Kumar Mandal, Subhas Prasad Khakurel, Binod Kumar Das, Sanjam Regmi, Pradeep Airi, Chandra Saud, Rahul Kumar Bishwakarma, Prithu Baskota, Sharad Bhesawakar and coach Pubudu Wathiya Dasnayake from Sri-Lanka and Prayush Neupane.



On the occasion, the Prime Minister said the nation has expected that a dream for holistic development would get materialized through youths´ talent and expressed the hope that such honor to them would inspire the youth generation to fulfill their own responsibility.



Stating that the incumbent government is committed to the betterment of athletes, the Prime Minister said the Cabinet meeting on Thursday has decided to manage awards of up to Rs 10 million to encourage athletes.



Praising the Nepali cricketers for their best and miracle performance in the international tournament, he said now the Nepali cricketers should eye on the world tournaments and meet the people´s expectation that Nepalis are able to compete in the international sports tournament.



Ministry´s Secretary Sushil Ghimire was also present on the occasion. He including awarded Paras, Gangadevi and Ram Prasad said that state honour and respect to players has inspired them to do better in their respective fields.
