Players Cup gets sponsor, CoAS felicitates ITF winners

KATHMANDU, June 21: Nepal National and International Players Association (NNIPA) and Nepatop, a water tank manufacturer, on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding to sponsor the Players Cup Football Tournament to be held on June 25, 26 and 27 at the Dasharath Stadium, Kathmandu. [break]



NNIPA president Deepak Bista and Nepatop Executive Director Deepak Shrestha signed the understanding amidst a function in the capital. Nepatop will provide Rs 150,000 and launch promotional items for the tournament. The tournament will be named ´Nepatop Players Club.´



On the final day of the tournament, popular singers and music bands will perform at the stadium before the kickoff time and during the interval of the match. Singers Nima Rumba, Anil Singh and the Unity will rock the stadium.



The tournament will feature top four ´A´ division teams -- Nepal Police Club, Nepal Army Club, Three Star Club and New Road Team.



Meanwhile, Surendra Bhandari of Laligurans Cooperative, Prakash Bahadur Thapa of Gorkha Action Martial Arts, Karma Tshering Sherpa of Himalayan Sherpa Club and Lalit Krishna Shrestha of ANFA handed cash assistance of Rs 10,000 each to NNIPF on the occasion. Sunday.



The tournament is being organized with a view to raise funds for the ex-national volleyball player Dinesh Baniya who is in critical condition after both of his kidneys failed and needs a transplant. Nepal Sports Journalists Forum is the co-organizer of the tournament.



CoAS felicitates ITF players



Army chief Rookmangud Katuwal felicitated medal winning army personnel in the Fifth General Choi Memorial National Taekwondo Tournament.



Katuwal gave away Rs 5,000 each to the medal winners at a function to mark 164th anniversary of Suryadal Battalion, in Bhaktapur on Sunday. Nepal Army players won 4 golds and 2 silver medals in the Fifth General Choi Memorial National Taekwondo tournament held on June-14-15. 



Tej Bahadur Bogati, Tulsi Ram Mahato, Dhan Bahadur Majhi and Ganesh Singh Thakur won gold medals in the tournaments whereas Gyan Prasad Khatri and Sangam Oli won silver medals. Likewise, Krishna Bahadur Baral, the president of Nepal International Taekwondo Federation (ITF), and Umesh Rajthala, Taekwondo coach of Suryadal Battalion were also felicitated in the function by the army chief.



14th school level special sports



Nepal Para Olympic Committee is organizing 14th School Level National Special Sports and Cultural Competition for the differently-able students on June 28, 29 and 30 at the Dasharath Stadium, Kathmandu.



The president of Nepal Para Olympic Committee and the coordinator of the competition Deepak Koirala informed that 585 players would participate in the competition from across the nation in a press conference on Sunday.



Special Sports will be held on the 28th and 29th at the Dashrath Stadium and cultural program on the 30th at Nepal Sanskritik Sansthan.



The budget for the competition is Rs. 2 million out of which Rs 1.2 million is allocated by the Department of Education and remaining Rs. 8,00,000 is allocated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
