Patan Appellate Court settles record case load

KATHMANDU, July 17: Patan Appellate Court has disposed of the highest number of cases since its establishment in 1991.



According to Registrar Nripadhwaj Niraula, the court has disposed of 6,471 cases out of the total 11,645 cases during the fiscal year 2012/13. Niraula was making public the annual progress report of Patan Appellate Court on Tuesday in Lalitpur. [break]



“We have achieved 92.6 percent of our case disposal target,” Chief Judge of Patan Appellate Court Kesari Raj Pandit said, “We have settled 55.5 percent cases against our target to settle 60 percent cases during the last fiscal year.”



According to the report, the court has settled 78.34 percent cases which were carried over from fiscal year 2011/12.



“Each judge has disposed of between 604 to 1,026 cases in the last fiscal year,” reads the report. In 2011/12, each judge had disposed 657 cases on an average.



Niraula said that Patan Appellate Court disposed of 40.93 percent cases which were registered in the last one year. He stated that the writing out of the full verdict has also been intensified. “Full verdict of 667 cases out of 6471 cases are left to be written out,” Niraula told media persons.



According to him, Patan Appellate Court has uploaded 7,524 verdicts on its software so far.

According to the report, nine district courts which are under Patan Appellate Court have also delivered good results. Kathmandu District Court has disposed of 59.1 percent cases, Lalitpur District Court 44.29 percent and Bhaktapur District Court 60.23 percent cases during the last fiscal year.



Similarly, Kavrepalanchowk District Court has disposed of 65.46 percent cases, Nuwakot District Court 52.1 percent, Dhading District Court 62.33 percent, Rasuwa District Court 73.81 percent, Sindhupalchowk District Court 71.4 percent and Dolakha District Court 46.3 percent cases.

All nine courts under Patan Appellate Court have disposed of 13, 935 cases out of 24,333 cases during the last fiscal year.
