Secretariat coordinator Bala Nanda Sharma on Thursday called a meeting of its members in a bid to strike an agreement on the mechanism, which will have ex-army personnel for monitoring the Maoist combatants after UNMIN´s exit come mid-January. [break]
But Maoist representatives Kul Bahadur KC and Chandra Prakash Khanal objected to the mechanism, saying such a mechanism is unacceptable to them.
As consensus has eluded them, Sharma is going to hand Pascoe on behalf of the other members the mechanism that he has floated, and the Maoists will lodge their objections over the mechanism during a separate meeting with the UN official.
"We will give the mechanism to Pasco while the Maoist representatives will express their views separately," said a non-Maoist secretariat member.
Maoist representative Khanal said they will object to the proposal during their meeting with Pascoe.
Pacoes is arriving in Kathmandu Friday morning for talks with political leaders on the peace process, UNMIN´s exit and other issues.
In a different context, Maoist representative on the Special Committee for Supervision, Integration and Rehabilittion of Maoist Combatants Janardan Sharma said that 50 percent of the PLA could be integrated while the remaining half could be rehabilitated if parties agree on the modality of integration and rehabilitation.
Speaking at a program organized by Reporters´ Club Nepal, Sharma said the peace process could not move if the parties do not agree on a package deal.
