KATHMANDU, May 23: A day after government registered a bill at parliament secretariat seeking extension of the Constituent Assembly (CA), sister organizations of Nepali Congress and CPN-UML organized a rally against the decision. The rally billed as goodwill rally started from Maitighar Mandala and converted into a corner meeting at New Baneshwar.
Addressing the assembly, Ranjit Karna, president of Nepal Student Union, said that the government should promulgate a new constitution within May 27. [break]“Parties can´t extend the deadline of Constituent Assembly again, they should promulgate constitution by May 27,” Karna said.
Similarly, Mahesh Basnet, chairman of Youth Association Nepal, a sister wing of the CPN-UML, said his organization won´t let political parties destroy national integrity in the name of federalism. Taking a jab at Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Basnet said that Dahal has already lost the credibility to become next president of Nepal claiming his party-led government was the most corrupt in the country´s history.
Echoing Basnet, President of Nepal Tarun Dal, youth wing of the Nepali Congress, Udaya Sumsher Rana alleged Dahal of hatching conspiracy for becoming next president. “Prachanda is willing to foment another bloodshed to become the next president of Nepal,” he said, adding, “Maoist party wants to divide nation in the name of federalism.”
Youth Association Nepal, All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU), Nepal Student Union, Nepal Tarun Dal, All Nepal Women Association, Nepal Women Association, Nepal Muslim Ittehad Association, Mukti Samaj, Pragatisheel Youth Association, General Federation of Nepal Trade Union and Nepal Student Family including others participated in the goodwill rally.
Meanwhile, local supporters of different political parties, various organizations and businessmen also organized a rally for communal harmony in Damak, Jhapa on Wednesday, reports our correspondent Raju Adhikari. The rally turned into a mass assembly after passing through major places of the municipality.
Addressing the assembly, Maoist leader Gagan Puri, CPN-UML´s Radhakrishna Khanal, Nepali Congress´ Purnananda Sharma and others stressed on communal harmony.
