A report prepared by the committee was handed over to Chief Justice Ram Prasad Shrestha, who is also the chairman of Judicial Council (JC), on Tuesday. [break]
According to a source, Pokhara Appellate Court judge Om Subedi, Banke District Court judge Sita Pokharel, Arghakhanchi District Court judge Achyut Bista and another judge whose name the source didn´t want to reveal have been found guilty.
“We have just received the report. We will first study it and decide the nature of punishment,” Jeevan Hari Adhikari, secretary at the Judicial Council (JC) told reporters.
Despite repeated request by journalists, Adhikari didn´t disclose the names of those found guilty. “We decided not to disclose the names right away as the nature of punishment against them is yet to be decided,” Adhikari told journalists.
Adhikary, however, told that the JC, based on the severity of the misconduct, would take actions that could range from blocking promotion to dismissal from judicial service.
A meeting of Judicial Council members on April 6, 2010 had formed a probe committee under the chairmanship of justice Magar to investigate into complaints against 16 judges of the district and appellate courts. The JC had earlier received complaints against 70 incumbent judges.
Over the last 10 years, the Judicial Council has taken action against seven judges including Rameshwar Man Singh Adhikari, Dhrubalal Raj, Mohan Giri, Kedar Pyakurel, Ganesh Panjiyar, Kedar Koirala and Mukti Nepal.
