BANEPA, Oct 16: The One Village, One Product (OVOP) program has been launched in Kavre district from this fiscal year. Dairy (product) has been identified as the product of the district under the program.

Kavre is among the 11 districts where the program was implemented from this year after the government increased budget for the purpose.

“It is a matter of great pride for us that dairy has been selected as the product of the district under OVOP. Kavre is the pioneering dairy producer in the country,” Tika Prasad Poudel, immediate past president of Kavrepalanchwok District Dairy Production Cooperatives, said.[break]

The District Livestock Services Office (DLSO), Kavre has identified Panauti Municipality and Balthali, Chalal Ganesthan, Kalanti Bhumedanda, Dungkharka, Kushadevi, Rayale, Nala, Mahadevsthan and Panchkhal Village Development Committees (VDCs) as pocket areas for dairy production in the district.

“We had demanded Rs 1.9 million to implement the program. But we have learned that only Rs 1.2 million has been allocated. Of that amount, Rs 120,000 will go in administrative expenses,” Rajkumar Humagain, an officer at DLSO Kavre, said.

Under the program, farmers will get support in shed upgradation, veterinary services, and quality cattle feed, among others. They will also get support in milk processing techniques, packaging and labeling of dairy products as well as finding market for their products.
