KATHMANDU, Aug 4: Min Bahadur Sherchan, world´s oldest person to climb Mt. Everest, was briefly detained by police here on Wednesday.

Sherchan, 80, was brought to the Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu and interrogated in connection with a complaint against him about a ´fraud´ case. The Kathmandu police had picked him upon request by the Kaski police that has been searching for him for four months.

A complaint lodged by one Ras Kumari Gurung at the District Administration Office (DAO) claims that Sherchan had denied paying back Rs 1.7 million that he borrowed from her in the name of Senior Citizen Mt. Everest Expedition Nepal, an organization formed in the run-up to his Everest ascent in 2008.

Sherchan had jointly signed the loan paper together with Ram Jindagi Gurung , the then president of the organization. But now both the borrowers are allegedly pointing to one another to clear the loan taken from the elderly woman, police said.

The Kathmandu police released him after a few hours as both Sherchan and Gurung agreed to appear at the DAO Kaski to sort out the dispute.
