The government was preparing to allocate the budget for the construction of airports at Phoksundo in Dolpa district and Suketar in Taplejung district, he said.

“The runway in Tumlingtar Airport in Okhaldhunga district is in the process of being black-topped while Langtang Airport in Rasuwa District and Dhorpatan Airport in Baglung district will resume operation soon,” he added.

Similarly, State Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Shatrughna Prasad Singh said that NTY 2011 was important to mark the end of long conflict and start an economic revolution. He asked the concerned sectors to maintain peace to make NTY a success.

During the ceremony, NTB also awarded Soaltee Crowne Plaza Kathmandu, Jaya Travels and Tours, and Himalaya Expedition as the best performers in the hotel, travel and tour agent, and trekking agent categories respectively. The annual awards are given away to those with the highest transaction as per the data provided to Nepal Rastra Bank.

Ramon Magsaysay Award recipient Mahabir Pun said that trekkers in the Myagdi route would now also be able to get internet access throughout the route. He explained that internet could also be used as virtual ATM machine in the route.

He said the concept of trekking was under Nepal-Community Ecology Trek and was completely going to benefit the local community.

NTB is also organizing other events with ´Tourism and Bio-diversity´ as the theme throughout the week.
