“We´ve already procured three vehicles. The mobile BTSs will start operation once necessary equipment are fixed,” Amar Nath Singh, managing director of NT, told a press meet on Monday.[break]
NT is also continuing its network optimization drive to ensure congestion free network inside the capital. NT has already replaced 212 traditional BTS with modern BTS with higher capacity.
“Radio Frequency (RF) Optimization process is going on. Maintenance of BTS has become more effective after the establishment of Maintenance Control Center,” he added.
Officials said the BTS vans will be taken to the sites where network congestion is likely to occur during special events, ceremonies and gatherings. NT plans to take the vans to places like Khullamanch and Dasharath Stadium for special occasions like fairs and mass gatherings.
According to officials, thousands of customers can make phone calls easily from the venues covered by the vehicle-mounted BTS. They will also be useful in times of emergency such as natural disasters.
ALT Inter Corporation Limited of Thailand had bagged the tender for supplying vehicle-mounted BTSs.
NT is planning to bring 10 more BTS vans to provide the service nationwide in times of need.
The total cost of all the vehicles is estimated to be around Rs 350 million.
A van with BTS looks like a crane at first glance. At the time of operation, the BTS is made straight, enabling the vehicle to reach a higher level to provide the service.
