According to NSC Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama, the initial preparations for the junior championship have already been made but technical aspects need further discussion.[break]
“The Junior Championship will have a structure similar to the National Games,” said Lama, adding, “The championship begins from district level culminating in national championship. However, the final decision in this regard will be taken later.” Lama was of the opinion that junior championship will make the sports base stronger.
The 85th board meeting of NSC also decided to send NSC President and Minister for Youth and Sports Kamala Rokka and NSC Member Secretary Lama to Kuwait for discussions with the officials of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
The decision was made after NSC agreed to recognize the Nepal Olympic Committee headed by Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan.
"There was conflict between the NOC and NSC for a long time, which created a big confusion in Nepali sports fraternity. We will discuss the state´s role in coordinating the Olympic movement," Lama said, adding the visit was jointly coordinated by the Pradhan-led NOC and NSC. "I hope the visit will send across a positive message regarding Nepal´s commitment to Olympic movement."
Similarly, the meeting also decided to amend the Sports Development Act 2048 and Sports Development Regulation 2049. The board meeting of the NSC has made this decision following directives from Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai who had suggested to NSC to make timely changes in the regulations.
Likewise, the meeting decided to set up a board of examiners and national black belt committee following suggestions from all martial arts disciplines registered with the NSC.
The establishment of the board will be helpful in making martial arts more prestigious and the black belt committee will help keep statistics of black belt distributed across the nation, a press statement issued by the NSC states.
