NPC, Army to vie for title

KATHMANDU, July 31: National Women´s League Champion Nepal Police Club (NPC) defeated the powerhouse of Nepali women´s football, Nepal APF Club, 3-1 on Wednesday to set up a title clash with the host Nepal Army Club, which thrashed Far-western Region 5-1, in the Chief of Army Staff First National Women´s Football Tournament.



Niru Thapa scored a brace as NPC came from a goal down to win the semifinal 3-1. Anu Lama gave the lead to APF in the 18th minute of the match. Thapa leveled the scores in the 48th minute and Rupa Magar added a second for NPC in the 77th minute. Thapa shined again in the dying minutes of the match as she scored her second goal in the injury time to seal a 3-1 victory for NPC. [break]



APF had reached the semifinals of the tournament thrashing Mid-western Region 19-0 on Tuesday while NPC had routed Central Region 13-0.

Earlier on Wednesday, Army thrashed Far-western Region 5-1 in the first semifinal of the tournament.



Deepa Adhikari opened the scoring for Army in the third minute of the match. Krishna Khatri doubled the tally in the 11th and Kabita Dhimal made it 3-0 in the 18th minute. Khatri scored her second in the 69th minute to make it 4-0 but Bina Chaudhary pulled one back for Far-western in the 71st minute. However, Bijaya Rai scored in the final minute of regulation time to seal a 5-1 victory for Army.

The final will be held on Thursday.
