At a program organized by Nepal Cancer Relief Society at Bhrikutimandap, it was revealed that around 6 million people die of tobacco yearly and the number will reach 10 million by 2030. Around 11,000 people die every day around the world due to tobacco.
At the program, Health Minister Umakant Chaudhary said the government will soon bring in the Bill to control the epidemic of tobacco. After the program, an awareness rally was held.
Meanwhile, the Radiation Oncology Department of Bir Hospital organized a blood donation program to mark the day.
Sixty-seven persons donated blood at the program organized jointly with Chetana Health Initiative Foundation, according to Dr Sandhya Chapagain of the department.
Govt fails to curb tobacco use despite calls for higher tax
