Talking to reporters at Nepalgunj airport Wednesday morning, Bhattarai said, “The President´s move to reverse the government´s decision was an open coup. Unless this development is brought back on track, we will boycott parliament and our street agitations will continue also.” He was returning to Kathmandu from a visit to Rara in Mugu district.
“Unless the President´s unconstitutional move is corrected, there is no question of talking to any party regarding formation of a new government,” Bhattarai said.
Responding to a query on the possibility of the Maoists letting the MJF (Madhesi Janadhikar Forum) lead the next government, Bhattarai said that the issue will be taken up only after the President´s decision is corrected.
Bhattarai compared the President´s move with that of King Gyanendra´s February 1 move. He claimed that the President´s decision was no less an unconstitutional step than the one taken by the then king. He accused President Dr Ram Baran Yadav of reversing the government´s decision under prompting from foreign powers.
Regarding the video tape of Prachanda´s speech released by some media of late, Bhattarai opined that the tape was released at the behest of General Rookmangud Katawal to divert the attention of the people from the President´s unconstitutional move.
Bhattarai had reached Mugu along with wife and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Hisila Yami to explore the possibility of connecting Rara with an airport and to look at development prospect in this most scenic area. Bhattarai could not fly back on Tuesday due to sudden illness during his helicopter flight.
Meanwhile, Minister Yami informed that the government is going to form a Karnali Development Committee to advance the development of this remote region of the country.
