GUANGZHOU, May 16: The leaderships at the Non Resident Nepalese Association (NRNA) National Coordination Councils (NCC) in China, Hong Kong and Macau have remained unchanged after the NRNA conventions held recently.
The conventions re-elected Sundar Thapa as president of NRN China, Durga Gurung as president of NRN Hong Kong and Sudarshan Thapa as president of NRN Macau. [break]
Although Hong Kong and Macau are both special administrative regions of China, the NRNAs have provisioned different NCCs for these regions for the more effective execution of their work.
The NCCs have been organizing the conventions in preparation for the Asia Pacific Regional Conference of NRNAs to be held in Manila, capital of the Philippines, on 18 May.
According to regional conference coordinator Trilok Gurung, the conference is to discuss the NCCs´ conclusions and draft a regional strategy for the NRNAs
The third convention of NRNA China held on Sunday in Guangzhou elected a 15-member working committee. Most of the members including President Thapa, Vice-president Sanjaya Chetani and General Secretary Sudesh Jha have been re-elected.
An estimated 500 Nepali businessmen and around 3,000 Nepali students are living in China at present.
Speaking at the NRNA China convention, Nepali Ambassador to China, Mahesh Maskey, said that NRN China should help enhance Nepal-China trade by learning from China´s economic prosperity. Newly appointed Nepali Consul General for Hong Kong, Mahesh Dahal, informed that the government has already approved the proposal to establish a Nepali consulate general in Guangzhou and added that Nepal Airlines would start regular Kathmandu-Guangzhou flights within nine months.
Similarly, the fourth convention of Hong Kong NRNA re-elected Durga Gurung as president, Lalit Subba and Tika Gurung as vice-presidents and Binaya Shah as secretary of the new working committee.
