ITAHARI, May 12: Public Forum Biratnagar, a local NGO working for consumer rights, has filed a complaint against proprietor of Sugam Gas Company Shiva Prasad Ghimire at the Sunsari district office of Cottage and Small Industries.

Ghimire has been accused of tampering with cylinders of other gas companies. However, no action has been taken against Ghimire, except that Nepal Oil Corporation has stopped supplying gas to his company. [break]

The office of Cottage and Small Industries has assured that the office would file a case against Ghimire seeking maximum penalty.

“We could not file the case as no one had lodged a complaint against Ghimire,” Sharma said. “Now that we have received a formal complaint we will file the case after consulting government attorney.” As per Consumer Rights Protection Act-1998, Ghimire can be slapped a jail term of 14 years or be fined up to Rs 500,000.

The NGO has also accused Chief District Officer (CDO) of Sunsari Ram Prasad Thapaliya of delaying action against Ghimire.

CDO Thapaliya claimed the government attorney has not yet provided suggestions as to what charges can be labeled against Ghimire. District attorney Tikendra Dahal, however, said his office has already provided recommendations in writing to Thapaliya.
