A meeting of Board of Directors of KUKL, held on Tuesday, has made such a decision for the first time. [break]
"We have decided to appoint a new GM through open competition," said Rudra Gautam, a member of KUKL Board. He said that qualified Nepali and foreign nationals can contest for the post.
According to Gautam, Asian Development Bank (ADB), the main lender of KUKL, has been urging the board to appoint a new general manager who can deal with the ongoing problems. The company in the past had appointed a foreign expert as GM as per ADB´s suggestion, but “the GM failed to perform.” Gautam said the foreign expert failed to perform because of his inability to understand the ground realities.
“We have been looking for a candidate, who would have a dynamic personality and can maintain good public relations. He must also be in a position to understand the ground realities,” he said.
“The new GM will have more decision making powers which would help him to improve the overall management," added Gautam.
The KUKL said that vacancy for a new GM will be published on the Wednesday´s newspaper. Milan Kumar Shakya, spokesperson of the KUKL, said that the board meeting has also set terms and conditions for the new GM. "Out of seven members board, six were present in the meeting and the decision was taken unanimously," said Shakya.
He said that the new GM can take independent decisions on behalf of the company. The tenure of new GM will be of two years and the board of directors can extend the tenure on the basis of performance. The company is currently headed by an acting director general.
The KUKL, which is responsible for supplying water to household taps, has been struggling to live up to the task.
