Netaman is a pre-election, pro-democracy initiative developed by For Democracy with the specific objective of addressing political apathy in urban and semi urban youths leading to increase in their voting participation at the upcoming CA elections.[break]
“Netaman is a democratic characteristic inside of all of us,” added Adhiraj while Jyotshna Maskey, one of the other core members of Netaman explained, “We use the term Netaman because today, when we say ‘Neta’ we only relate it to political parties. We forget that we are all ‘Neta’s as well. In a way, we are deconstructing the word ‘Neta’.”
Under the campaign, various events and activities will be carried out for the next four months. It will create platforms where 100+ democratic solutions will be addressed, recognizing them into a policy influence summit in the first week of November. Out of the summit and from the solutions proposed, a ‘Solution Handbook’ will be published. These solutions will come from ‘Solution Walas’ who are, in Netaman terms, individuals, agencies or products whose existence and vision helps
institutionalize democracy in Nepal. The solution walas can be nominated by filling out a form available at the campaign’s website, www.netaman.com. They have to be based on eight concerned areas: Health, media, arts, education, social justice, environment, agriculture and politics.
The first event of Bol! Netaman will be held at Backyard Lounge in Jhamsikhel on September 1. The event is free and open to the public.
Also as part of the initiative, Netaman will hold electoral debates in Dhanusha, Siraha, Udayapur and Morang districts. All debates will address the concern of how politicians are solutions to Nepal.
