"It is very disappointing that we could not qualify for Division 3. It could not happen for us this time," Khadka expressed his grief.[break]
Khadka claimed the whole team was serious about the tournament. "We had played seriously but we could not maintain consistency in Italy after two good tournaments," Khadka told reporters.
He cited batting as the weakest side of the team. "Batting was horrible. We had done well in other areas. Amrit (Bhattarai) and Bashant (Regmi) bowled well but batting was horrible," said Khadka.
He cited lack of match practice and astro-turf pitch for batting inconsistency. He, however, said his team would not put these things for an excuse. "There were high hopes on us and I don´t want to put excuses forward," said Khadka.
Nepal unexpectedly lost to Tanzania in league round and failed against the US. These two results limited Nepal to Division 4 and Nepali team faced criticism back home for losing to a weaker Tanzania. "We were serious about every match and we were expecting to maintain healthy net run rate from the match but It didn´t happen," Khadka explained.
"We planed to open batting against Tanzania with Mehboob (Alam) in the midway of Tanzanian innings. We were expecting to finish the match early. Cricket is game of uncertainty and not a single person but the whole team failed on that particular day," Khadka explained about meddling in batting order.
Khadka claimed his team has learnt a lesson from the tournament. However, he denied that there should be many changes in the current team.
Nepal finished the Division 4 tournament in third position and they will play the same tournament in 2012 to open their only door to the Cricket World Cup 2015.
