The talks held between the 12-member delegation of the Department of Railway of Korea led by Lee Jong Kuk, Director General of Railway and Safety Planning, and a Nepali team led by Tulasi Prasad Sitaula, Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management concentrated on the proposed Railways and Metro Development Project. The Korean team arrived in Nepal on Sunday.Secretary Sitaula told RSS that the discussion centered on the possible support from the Korean side in the present context when Korean technicians are providing consultations to the government on the proposed Mechi-Mahakali Electronic Railway.
It was the first meeting held at the government levels to identify areas of mutual cooperation in establishing railway service in Nepal. The next meeting will be held next year in Korea, said Sitaula. The Korean side has responded positively to support Nepal in this regard, he added.
During the meeting, the Nepali team urged the Korean delegation to provide support also in tourism, hydropower, infrastructure development including the rail service, said Secretary Sitaula.
Senior officials of Department Railways, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Physical Planning and Transport Management attended the meeting.
