Nepal should avoid yam syndrome: C Raja Mohan

KATHMANDU, Sept 6: Experts have said that Nepal can grow only if it acted as a bridge between two of the fastest growing economies in the world--India and China.



Addressing a book launch program organized jointly by Center for South Asian Studies and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in the capital on Thursday, Professor C Raja Mohan, an eminent Indian Strategic Analyst and Commentator, said Nepal should rise above the traditional concept of being a yam between two boulders. “Nepal has got fantastic location. It needs to imagine of strategies to grow,” he said. [break]



Professor Mohan also said that Nepal can also act as a bridge between not just India and China but also between entire South Asian and East Asia.

“All Nepal needs to do is to devise new economic strategy,” he further said.



On the occasion, SAARC Secretary General Ahmed Saleem released two books titled ´SAARC: Towards Meaningful Cooperation´ and ´Towards a More Cooperative South Asia´.



While stressing on SAARC´s role as regional integrator, various speakers at the function said that there was a need to look for other ways to promote regional integration.



They maintained that regional integration could be promoted individually, bilaterally, multilaterally, sub-regionally and inter-regionally like BIMSTEC.
