Nepal finishes medal-less

KATHMANDU, July 12: Nepal finished the 28th Summer Universiade Games without earning a single medal after taekwondo and table tennis players lost their respective matches on Sunday in Gwangju, South Korea.

Nepal's run at the Universiade ended following the defeat of Deep Saun of table tennis and Neema Gurung of taekwondo on Sunday. In the women's 53 kg bout, Neema faced 5-18 defeat at the hands of Erika Cecilia Pedrozo of Colombia.Earlier, taekwondo player Nisha Rawal and Sita Tamang had crashed out after losing their bouts. Sita was the only Npeali player to make to the second rounds after win over Bhutanese player in the first round.

Similarly, national champion Deep Saun went down 8-11, 5-11, 11-6, 7-11, 12-14 in men's singles table tennis against Venezuela's Cecilio Correa Figueroa.

Altogether 19 players represented Nepal at the event in seven different sports categories: lawn tennis, archery, fencing, swimming, badminton, taekwondo and table tennis. The event to be concluded on Tuesday saw the participation of about 13,000 players from 146 countries.
