Nepal crashes out of U-19 Elite Cup

KATHMANDU, April 29: Defending champion Nepal´s dream to win the ACC U-19 Elite Cup for the fifth consecutive time was shattered after it suffered an empathetic six-wicket loss against Afghanistan on Wednesday in the semifinals at Hubara Cricket Ground, Kuwait. [break]



With this loss, Nepal also missed the chance of playing the ACC U-19 World Cup qualifying match to be held next year.



Electing to bat first, Nepal posted 187 runs losing eight wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Following the victory chase, Afghanistan collected 190/4 in 47.1 overs.



Prithu Baskota smashed 87 runs for the defending champion while Gyanendra Malla con tributed 31 runs and Rom Shrestha 28 runs for Nepal. Hamza Hotak claimed three important wickets for Afghanistan for 18 runs.



Aimal hammered 61 runs for Afghanistan while Asgher contributed 47 runs. Prithu Baskota took one wicket for the Nepali side.
