Nepal committed to anti-money laundering

KATHMANDU, Sept. 27: Finance Secretary Krishna Hari Baskota has said Nepal was fully committed to the anti-money laundering and has already endorsed three UN conventions for this.



With a delegation led by Richard Simon, Chief of International Aid at Finance Ministry of the US on Thursday, Finance Secretary Baskota said Nepal had already implemented the Anti-Money Laundering Act and even made the first amendment to it. Similarly, ordinances on mutual legal assistance and extradition were also issued.



Secretary Baskota further said government has expedited the anti-money laundering campaign and set up money laundering investigation department.



On the occasion, Mr Simon said the US was interested to extend necessary help to Nepal for the capacity building and knowledge transfer to the body involved in the anti-money laundering bid.



He suggested the Finance Ministry to make the investigation effective, according to the Ministry.
